"The Battle in the Horseshoe" is an American breakdown in 4/4 time and G dorian.
It celebrates the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. The battle (also known as Tohopeka, Cholocco Litabixbee, or The Horseshoe) was fought during the War of 1812 in the Mississippi Territory, in a region that is now central Alabama. On March 27, 1814, United States forces and Indian allies (the Lower Creek, Cherokee and Choctaw Indians) under Major General Andrew Jackson defeated the Red Sticks, the Upper Creek part of the Creek Indian tribe who opposed American expansion, effectively ending the Creek War.
The tune was recorded by Mike Seeger on Southern Banjo Styles (1998).
