The bees that are major pollinators of gourd and squash plants are squash bees or squash and gourd bees,two related genera of bees that resemble bumblebees more than honeybees. The tune was in the repertoire of famed Texas fiddler Benny Thomasson (1909-1984) of Dallas-Ft. Worth.
