"Catlettsburg" is an old-time breakdown from eastern Ky in C Major.<br> There are Catlettsburgs in Ohio and Kentucky, although the title probably honors the<br> Boyd County, Kentucky, town at the confluence of the Ohio and Big Sandy rivers.<br> It was named for an early pioneering family, Alexander and Horatio Catlett, who settled<br> the area at the end of the 18th century. The town was also early known as Mouth of Sandy<br> and Big Sandy Landing. <br> Kentucky fiddler Ed Haley seems to have composed this tune.<br> The version here is basically a transcript of J. P. Fraley's version on his Maysville CD,<br> which is a bit simpler than other recorded versions by John Hartford and by Ed Haley himself.<br> It was printed in Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 1, (1994) and<br> Lamancusa's The Gettysburg Collection of Old-Time Fiddle Tunes (2021).<br> It was recorded by Tom and Brad Leftwich and Alice Gerrard on Holly Ding, J.P. & Annadeene<br> Fraley on Maysville, Ed Haley on Grey Eagle and Adam Hurt on Insight.<br> I learned it from Adam Hurt's recording.<br>
