"Coming Through the Canebreak", also known as "Coming Through the Canebrake (To Shoot The
Buffalo)" is an American reel in D major.
There is very little information available on this tune. I found it on the website tune list of
San Diego Contra Dance.
Some sites link it to an Illinois fiddler named Mel Durham who came from a musical
family who had a family band called the Wayne County Apple Knockers in the 1930's.
There is a youtube video of Mel Durham playing this tune.
The first phrase reminds me of the children's nursery song "Go In and Out the Windows".
