"Dust in the Lane", also known as "Cotton Pickin' Time" is an old-time<br> American breakdown in A minor and A Dorian. The parts are played AABBCCD.<br> It is related to the "Paddy on the Turnpike"/"Falls of Richmond" family of<br> tunes and is a very Irish-sounding.<br> It was collected by Marion Thede from W. R. Newman of Waldron, Arkansas.<br> He sang these words to the third strain:<br> Betcha forty dollars I can pick a bale o' cotton,<br> Betcha more than that I can pick it in a year;<br> For me an' my farmer's friend<br> Can pick more cotton than a gin can gin.<br> The banjo tablature is by John Letscher.<br> It was printed in Thede's The Fiddle Book (1967) and<br> Lamancusa's The Gettysburg Collection of Old-Time Fiddle Tunes (2021).<br> It was recorded by James Bryan & Carl Jones on Cricket's Lullaby (2011).<br>
