"Fire in the Mountain" is an American reel in D major from southwestern Pennsylvania.
It was collected from Irvin Yaugher Jr. in Mt. Independence in Fayette County, Pa. on
October 14th, 1943 by Samuel Bayard. Bayard thought that the tune was similar to
"Shortnin' Bread". Yaugher's B part contains only four measures repeated.
The banjo tab is by John Letscher who used a modal tuning in A to produce a version
in E mixolydian. He has an eight measure B part repeated.
This is not the same tune as "Fire on the Mountain" that Alan Jabbour collected from
Henry Reed in Virginia.
It was printed in Bayard's Hill Country Tunes (1944).
