"Georgia Railroad", also known as "Peter and I Went Fishing" or "Peter went a-Fishin'"
is an American reel polka or air in A Major. The parts are played AABB.
It was printed in Brody's Fiddler's Fakebook (1983),
John Burke's Book of Old Time Fiddle Tunes for Banjo (1968),
Kuntz's Ragged but Right (1987),
Miller & Perron's 101 Polkas (1978),
Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 1 (1994),
Eric Muller & Barbara Koehler's Frailing the 5-String Banjo (1973),
Silberberg's The Complete Fiddle Tunes I Either Did or Did Not Learn at the Tractor
Tavern (2007) (as Peter Went a-Fishing),
Perlman's Fingerpicking Fiddle Tunes for Finger Style Guitar (1978) and
Melodic Clawhammer Banjo (1979) which is where I learned it.
This was recorded by Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers (1924),
Allan Block & Ralph Lee Smith on Meadowlands (1971),
Ledford String Band on Ledford String Band (1972),
Possum Hunters on Death on Lee Highway (1966),
Fennigs All Stars on Saturday Night in the Provinces (1975).
I play this in medleys with:
"Cherokee Shuffle"
"Seneca Square Dance"
both in this section and
"The Girl I Left Behind Me"
in the Songs section.
