"The Girl with the Blue Dress On" is an American march in 2/4 time and G Major.
The parts are played AB.
It is known in southwestern Pennsylvania. This is a fife piece, the favorite of the Rices Landing Band, a martial organization from Greene county Pa. However, it plays more like a schottische than a march. It is an entirely different melody from the contra-dance tune "Girl with the Blue Dress On". Samuel Bayard collected the notated version from Marion Yoders in Greene County, Pa. in 1960. He considered the title to be a floater. It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981). |
