"Hagantown Gals" is an old-time breakdown known in southwestern Pennsylvania in
G Major. The parts are played AB.
Samuel Bayard collected this tune from Irvin Yaugher Jr. of Mt. Independence,
Fayette County, Pennsylvania on October 19th 1943.
Fayette County, southeast of Pittsburgh, is the location of two of Frank Lloyd Wright's
houses (Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob). Kentuck Knob, also known as the Hagan House,
was built for Isaac N. and Benardine Hagan, owners of the Hagan Ice Cream Company.
This is possibly the origin of the "Hagantown" name of this tune.
It was printed in Bayard's Hill Country Tunes (1944). He pairs this tune with "Johnstown
Gals" under the heading of "Buffalo Gals".
