"Hazel Dean" is an American march in 2/4 time and G Major.<br> The parts are played AB.<br> Bayard (1981) was unable to trace this tune except for a version<br> in Howe's Diamond School for the Violin (1861) as the 6th tune<br> of a set of "Caledonian Quadrilles" which may indicate Scottish<br> origins. He thought that "Dornoch Links" in Kerr's Merrie Melodies<br> might represent an ancestral tune.<br> Bayard's informants all pronounced the title as though it were a<br> woman's name although an actual person was never mentioned.<br> It was collected from fiddler Frank King in Westmoreland County,<br> Pa. in 1960, fifer Charles Ganiear in Greene County, Pa. in 1960<br> and fifer Hiram Horner in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties, Pa.<br> in 1960.<br> It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981).<br>
