"Hell on the Nine Mile", also known as
"Dubuque",
"Lighthouse" or "Old Dubuque"
is an American reel in cut time and D Major. It is played in ADae or Standard fiddle tuning.
"Hell on the Nine Mile" is a version of a tune with several names and variants, although
the most prominent is "Dubuque".
The title seems to be a place-name and may refer to Nine Mile Flat, outside Oklahoma City, or Ninemile Creek, a stream in west-central Oklahoma. The banjo tablature is by John Letscher. His comment: Oklahoma variation on "Dubuque". Originally learned from Skip Gorman on Fiddles in the Cow Camp.It was recorded by Dan Gellert & Brad Leftwich on A Moment in Time (1993) (Learned from Pawnee, Oklahoma, fiddler John Kennedy) and Uncle Dick Hutchison on Old Time Fiddlin' and Sharecropper's Blues (2015). |
