"The Home Town Band", also known as "The Old Town Band" or "The Centennial" is an American march
in 2/4 time and G major. The parts are played AABB.
It is known exclusively in southwestern Pa.
Samuel Bayard collected it there and says that it was universally known to
fifers and some fiddlers. He collected six versions of it but was not able to trace it back to
British Isles antecedents.
Bayard's version A was collected from Hiram Horner, a fifer from Westmoreland and Fayette
Counties, Pa. in 1944.
It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981).
