A dorian mode tune played sometimes in A and sometimes in D (although
this version is in D minor)
This tune comes from West Virginia or from Western Virginia. It has
been attributed to the Hammons family and Henry Reed but does not
appear in the Library of Congress Henry Reed collection.
The tune was in the repertoire of legendary fiddler J. Dedrick Harris,
born in Tennessee, who moved to Western N.C. in the 1920's and
influenced a generation of fiddlers there.
It was printed in Johnson's The Kitchen Musician No. 2: Occasional Collection of
Old-Timey Fiddle Tunes for Hammer Dulcimer, Fiddle, etc. (1982)(revised 1988, 2003),
Reiner's Anthology of Fiddle Styles (1979) and
Songer's Portland Collection (1997).
This plays well in medleys with:
"Greasy Coat"
"Wagoner"
both in this section.
