"Jimmy Johnson" is an American reel in cut time and G Major or A Major with AEae fiddle tuning.<br> The parts are played ABB (Burl Hammons), AB (Ernie Carpenter) or AABB'CC'DD (Melvin Wine).<br> It was in the repertory of W.Va. fiddlers Melvin Wine (1909-2003), Ernie Carpenter (1909-1997,<br> who learned it from his father Shelt Carpenter) and Burl Hammons. <br> It was said to have been Wine's favorite tune.<br> The banjo tablature is by John Letscher. In the banjo tablature the D part is actually a repeat<br> of the B part, but is played an octave higher than the fiddle since the lower notes are too low<br> to be played on a banjo in G or A tuning.<br> It was printed Milliner & Koken's Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes (2011),<br> Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Music, vol. 1 (1994) and<br> Lamancusa's The Gettysburg Collection of Old-Time Fiddle Tunes (2021).<br> It was recorded by Ernie Carpenter on Elk River Blues: Traditional Tunes From Braxton County, W.Va.,<br> Melvin Wine on Hannah at the Springhouse (1989),<br> Ernie Carpenter on Ernie Carpenter (2015),<br> Ward Jarvis on Ward Jarvis (2004.
