"John Newgrant Come Home With a Pain in His Head" is an American double jig in
D Major. The parts are played AB.
Bayard (1944) believed this tune to be from Irish tradition, although he could not trace it. He believed the name may come from a fiddler's rhyme attached to the tune but did not record any rhyme for it. The notated version was collected from Mrs. Sarah Armstrong of Derry, Pennsylvania in 1943 by Samuel Bayard. It was printed in Bayard's Hill Country Tunes (1944). |
