"Kate's got the Bellyache" is an American reel in cut time (with two crooked
measures in 5/4) and A Mixolydian. The tune has only ten measures. The parts
are played AAB (Titon) or One part (Milliner & Koken). It is played in
ADae or standard fiddle tuning.
Jeff Titon (2001) identifies this tune's provenance as south-eastern Kentucky,
exclusively. It is also played with parts reversed like Edden Hammon's
"Jake's Got a Bellyache".
It was printed in Milliner & Koken's Milliner-Koken Collection of American
Fiddle Tunes (2011) and Titon's Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes (2001).
It was recorded in the field by A.J. Johnson of Annville, Jackson County,
Kentucky (1975).
