"Kentucky Whiskey", also known as "Old Kentucky Whiskey" is an Old-Time breakdown in A Major. The parts are played AABB. It is played in AEae fiddle tuning. The name Kentucky is derived from the Mohawk phrase "kenta ke", meaning "(on) the meadow" or "(on) the prairie". The area, which encompassed parts of Virginia (including parts of what is currently West Virginia) became the fifteenth state in the Union on June 1, 1792. It is one of four states that are called commonwealths (including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia). The banjo tablature is by John Letscher who learned it from the Volo Bogtrotters.
