"Little Billy Wilson", also known as "Ace of Spades", "Billy Wilson",<br> "Old Bill Wilson" and "Reel des charretiers" is an American reel in A Major.<br> It is often played in AEae fiddle tuning. The parts are played AAB (Eck Robertson),<br> ABC (Silberberg) or AABBCC (Kuntz, Phillips).<br> A three-part version was<br> synthesized by fiddler and musicologist Joel Shimberg and entered 'revival' tradition,<br> although based on Grand Ole Opry early star Uncle Jimmy Thompson's "Billy Wilson"<br> 1926 version. Most modern versions are based on Shimberg's tune, originally called<br> "Old Bill Wilson". "Billy Wilson" is a latter part of Texas fiddler Eck_Robertson's<br> "Brilliancy Medley". The first strain is shared with North Dakota fiddler<br> Joe Pancerzewski's "Original Canadian Hoedown" and the first strain also appears in<br> fiddler Arthur-Joseph (A.J.) Boulay's (1883-1948) Reel des charretiers (Carter's Reel),<br> recorded in 1930 in Montreal.<br> It was printed in Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 2 (1995) and<br> Silberberg's Complete Fiddle Tunes I Either Did or Did Not (2005),<br> It was recorded by<br> Critton Hollow String Band on Poor Boy (1979),<br> Cathy Fink on Doggone My Time (1982),<br> Taylor Made String Band on 51st Annual Galax Old Fiddlers Convention (1987),<br> Trapezoid on Another Country (1982),<br> Rafe Stefanini on Glory on the Big Spring,<br> The Ill-Mo Boys on Fine as Frog Hair (1993),<br> Eck Robertson (78 RPM) (1930) (Recorded Dallas, Texas, 10/11/1929 as part of<br> "Brilliancy" medley).<br>
