"Magpie" is an American reel in cut or 2/4 time known in North Carolina (Piedmont<br> region in G Major. The parts are played AB (Silberberg) or AABB (Brody, Kaufman).<br> It was collected by Alan Jabbour in 1966 for the Library of Congress from fiddle/banjo<br> duo Harlan Coble and William Alonzo "Lonnie" Corsbie in Guilford County, north-central<br> N.C.). It was also collected by Eric Olson, Bobbie and Tommy Thompson in 1968.<br> Tom Carter collected a D Major version from Piedmont fiddler Earl<br> Shatterly. The tune was very popular among young old-time musicians in the "revival"<br> of the 1970's.<br> Alan Jabbour and Ken Perlman play this in a medley with "Greasy String".<br> It was printed in Brody's Fiddler's Fakebook (1983),<br> Kaufman's Beginning Old Time Fiddle (1977),<br> Silberberg's Tunes I Learned at Tractor Tavern (2002) and<br> Songer's Portland Collection, vol. 2 (2005). <br> It was recorded by Ken Perlman & Alan Jabbour on Southern Summits,<br> Wry Straw on From Earth to Heaven (1978),<br> Fuzzy Mountain String Band on Fuzzy Mountain String Band (1972) and<br> The Cedar Point String Band. <br>
