"Murillo's Lesson (2)", also known as "Marilla's Lesson", "Morella's Lesson" or<br> "Morelli's Lesson" is an American march, hymn tune and air in C Major or<br> G Major (Nixon, Robinson). The parts are played AA'BB'. The B part has 10 measures.<br> The melody can be found in a number of early 19th century American instrumental<br> tutors, where it seems to have been a staple of the fife repertoire and in period<br> march collections. It appears as early as the Thomas Nixon fife manuscript<br> (as "Morelli's Lesson"), dated c. 1776-78, although it may have been entered at a<br> later date, as no other 18th century ms. appearances of the tune have been found.<br> It can also be found adapted for use in shape-note hymnals, where the indicated tune<br> was "Morelli," or "Lesson by Morelli". It can be found in the 1844<br> Sacred Harp<br> and the 1848 Sacred Melodeon.<br> It was printed in Howe's Complete Preceptor for the Accordeon (1843),<br> Elias Howe's First Part of the Musician's Companion (1842) and<br> A. Robinson Jr.'s Massachusetts collection of martial musick: containing a plain,<br> easy and concise introduction to the grounds of martial musick (1820).<br>
