"Ninth of January", also known as "Lost Indian" or "Old Time Eighth of January" is an<br> breakdown or reel in D Major. The parts are played AA'BB.<br> Beisswenger & McCann (2008)<br> relate that the tune is Bob Holt's version of Charlie Deckard's playing of "The Eighth<br> of January". It was different enough to provoke exceptions from those who knew the<br> fairly common "Eighth of January" tune, saying it was not correct. Finally, Holt<br> simply gave it a similar but different name. The melody was in the repertoire of<br> Alton Jones under the alternate titles given above.<br> Charlie Deckard, Bob Holt and Alton Jones are contemporary Ozark fiddlers.<br> To me, it seems that this tune is closer to "Lost Indian" than "Eighth of January".<br> It was printed in Beisswenger & McCann's Ozarks Fiddle Music (2008).<br> It was recorded by Bob Holt on Got a Little Home to Go To (1998).<br>
