"Old Grimes" is an American reel in D major. The parts are played AA’BB’.
This tune is hard to track down. There aren't a lot of sources available
although there are a few videos on youtube.
The banjo tab comes from my banjo collaborator John Letscher who learned it from
the playing of Lukas Poole. It was new to me.
The standard notation comes from the guitar tab version of Julian Lage and
Chris Eldridge on acousticguitar.com and Lamancusa's Gettysburg Collection.
It is not related to the old comic song known as "Old Father Grimes" or
"Old Grimes is Dead".
It was printed in
Lamancusa's The Gettysburg Collection of Old-Time Fiddle Tunes (2021).
It was recorded by Josh Williams, Andy Falco and Chris Eldridge on Live at the
Station (2011) and
Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge on Mount Royal (2017).
