"On the Banks of the Ohio", also known as "Banks of the Ohio" is an Ameerican reel
in cut time and G major.
It was discovered by ethnomusicologist Dr. Paul Tyler.in a manuscript by a fiddler/fifer named
John Carroll, who was stationed at Ft. Niagara, New York, in the early 1800's (1804 - 1812).
Carroll's manuscript included both Irish and Anglo/American dance tunes.
Whether Carroll composed the tune or documented an existing tune is unknown.
The banjo tablature is by John Letscher. His commwent:
Through John Lamancusa and Chirps Smith.
The tune is recorded on Vol. 2 of Chirp Smith's Home Recordings, which have been highly
recommended in the Fiddle HangOut.
It was published in Lamancusa's website https://www.oldtimefiddletunes.net/.
This is a different tune than the traditional song by the same name.
