"Pull Down the Sheets" is an American reel in G Major. The parts are played AABB.
It was collected from Irvin Yaugher in Fayette County in southwestern Pennsylvania by Samuel Bayard in 1946. Although he thought the tune sounded like an Irish hornpipe or reel, Bayard (1981) was unable to trace an ancestral tune for it. A version collected from James Bryner in 1960 was titled by him "Downfall of Water Street" but it is very different from the jig version printed in Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes. Both versions were printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981). |
