"The Rebel Raid" is an Old-Time breakdown in A Major. It is usually played in AEae<br> tuning on the fiddle. The tune is sourced to John Scotland Hannah (b. 1920), who grew<br> up in Mingo County, West Virginia, but who moved to Columbus, Ohio, in the 1950's.<br> The title “Rebel Raid” was attached to several tunes at the turn of the century and<br> a tune called “Rebel Raid” was in the repertoire of Ed Haley (northeastern Kentucky).<br> Haley's vaerions of his tunes were sometimes quite different from the "standard"<br> versions played by other players.<br> Jim Taylor (1996) and Jeff Titon (2001) believe the title may refer to the 1864<br> Confederate incursions of General John Hunt Morgan and ‘Morgan’s Raiders’ into eastern<br> Kentucky. <br> Adam Hurt plays a banjo version of this tune.<br>
