"Rolling Off a Log", also known as "The Green Cockade" or "Sadler's Balloon" is an<br> American jig in D Major. The parts are played ABBC.<br> Bayard in Hill Country Tunes<br> (1944) noted that "Rolling off a Log" was another tune that sounded like it came<br> from the British Isles, yet determined it was difficult to trace. However, in notes<br> to the tune in his 1981 collection Dance to the Fiddle he thought<br> his untitled march (No. 467) a better version of the tune and identified<br> cognates as "The Green Cockade" and "Sadler's Balloon". The slide “Biddy the<br> Darling” in Irish tradition also has a cognate in the first strain.<br> It was collected from Mrs. Sarah Armstrong near Derry, Pa., on November 5th, 1943<br> and from Hiram Horner (fifer from Westmoreland and Fayette<br> Counties, Pa.) in 1962 by Samuel Bayard.<br> It was printed in Bayard's Hill Country Tunes (1944) and Bayard's Dance to the<br> Fiddle (1981).<br>
