"Rose in the Mountain" is an old time American breakdown from Kentucky in D Major.
It is a “crooked” tune from the Salyer Family. Jeff Titon (2001) is of the opinion the tune might have once been a march, although John Salyer played it as a breakdown. Titon finds the first part of “Rose on the Mountain,” published by Knauff in 1839 is related (however, it is not related to J.P. Fraley’s “Wild Rose of the Mountain”).
