"Run Down Boot" is an American reel in cut time and D Major.
It is an Illinois tune collected from Walter "Pete" Priest (1900 - 1991) of Paradise
(in the east-central part of the state), collected by Gary Harrison in 1971. Priest
was aged 71 at the time. Priest was known regionally as a dance fiddler and had learned
to play at age eight. He learned the tune from his fiddler father in Kentucky.
The banjo tablature is by John Letscher who says it was Learned from John Lamancusa
who had it from Chirps Smith.
It was recorded by Pete Priest on Dear Old Illinois (2007) (various artists) and
Indian Creek Delta Boys on Indian Creek Delta Boys (1976) and
Traditional Music of Illinois (1991).
It was printed in
Lamancusa's The Gettysburg Collection of Old-Time Fiddle Tunes (2021).
