"The Soldier's Dance" was collected by Samuel Bayard in 1944. <br> It is a jig in 6/8 time in G major.<br> It is also known as "The Marchioness", "The Guard House", "the Hullican Jig" and<br> "The Chelmsford Races".<br> The tune can be traced back to the 18th century in a collection by<br> T. S. Skillern in 1776 ("The Guard House").<br> It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1982),<br> Cushing's The Fifer's Companion No. 1 (1805)("The Marchioness") and<br> Petrie's Collection of Strathspey Reels & Country Dances (1790)("The Marchioness").<br>
