"The Soldier's Dance" was collected by Samuel Bayard in 1944.
It is a jig in 6/8 time in G major.
It is also known as "The Marchioness", "The Guard House", "the Hullican Jig" and
"The Chelmsford Races".
The tune can be traced back to the 18th century in a collection by
T. S. Skillern in 1776 ("The Guard House").
It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1982),
Cushing's The Fifer's Companion No. 1 (1805)("The Marchioness") and
Petrie's Collection of Strathspey Reels & Country Dances (1790)("The Marchioness").
