"Take Me Back to Georgia", also known as
"The Boston Boy",
"Ladies in the Ballroom",
"Rattlesnake Bit the Baby" or
"Katydid"
is an American reel in C Major. The parts are played AB (Silberberg) or AABB (Brody).
North Georgia fiddler Lowe Stokes recorded the tune in 1929 with guitarist Mike Whitten. It was also recorded by Sonny Miller as "Virginia Breakdown" (it appears as "Katy Did". Miller learned the tune from the Lowe Stokes record which had "Take Me Back to Georgia" backed with "Katy Did" only the record in Miller’s possession had the labels reversed, thus he actually learned "Take Me Back" under the other title). It was printed in Brody's Fiddler’s Fakebook (1983), Clare Milliner & Walt Koken's The Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes (2011) and Silberberg's Tunes I Learned at Tractor Tavern (2002). It was recorded by Lowe Stokes on Lowe Stokes, Vol. 1: 1927-1930 (reissue), New Lost City Ramblers on String Band Instrumentals (1964), Pickin' Round the Cookstove on Pickin' Round the Cookstove (1975) and David Grisman on David Grisman's Rounder Album (appears as "Boston Boy") (1976). |
