"Up in the Batten House" is an American reel in G major and 4/4 time.
The parts are played AA'B.
It was collected from Emery Martin in Dunbar, Fayette County, Pa. (near Uniontown and
Ohiopyle) by Samuel Bayard in 1946. Emery learned it from his father James Martin.
A batten house is sided with board and batten. Board and batten is a siding and paneling
style that uses narrow strips of wood placed over the joints of wide boards for a
geometric, layered effect.
It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981).
It was recorded by Tamsula and Withers on Up In The Batten House (2011).
