"Valley Forge" is an American reel in cut time and D Major/Mixolydian (most versions) or A Major. It is played in standard fiddle tuning or AEae tuning (A Major version). The parts are played ABC (Silberberg), AA'AA"BB'CC' (Phillips) or AA'BC (this version).
The tune comes from Jimmie Driftwood who learned “Valley Forge” from fiddler Absie Morrison, whose repertoire contained numerous pieces named for events in American history. Where Morrison obtained the tune, or if the title "Valley Forge" is his own, is unknown.
