"Who Hit Nellie with the Stovepipe?" is an American reel from southwestern Pa. in D Major.
The parts are played AB.
It was collected in 1952 from Walter Neal in Armstrong County, Pa.
I have no idea where the title comes from. If Bayard asked his sources about the sources of
the names, he didn't include them in his publications. He thought that this title sounded
like a song title but could find no song that matched.
The A part resembles the A part of "The Richmond Cotillion".
The banjo tab is by John Letscher.
It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981).
It was recorded by Tamsula, Withers and Krysty on Up In the Batton House (2011).
