"Yankee Hornpipe" is an American hornpipe in B Flat Major. The parts are played AABB.
Painter William Sidney Mount was aged 22 when Higgins published this composition in his 1829 collection. Although nothing is known about M.(ichael?) Higgins, quite a bit is known about Mount, who frequented the New York musical society in the company of his uncle, flute player and composer Micah Hawkins.
This version is from the music manuscripts of Long Island painter and fiddler William Sidney Mount (1807–1868), via Gilbert Ross [Phillips].
It was printed in M. Higgins' Original Dances, Waltes & Hornpipes for the Violin (1829), Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 2 (1995). It was recorded by Gilbert Ross on The Cradle of Harmony: William Sidney Mount's Violin and Fiddle Music (1976).
