"Yellow Cat" is an American reel in 4/4 time in D Major. It is usually played in ADae
fiddle tuning. The parts are played AABB.
Samuel Bayard in Dance to the Fiddle (1981) thought this tune was similar to his
generically named "Square Dance" (#90, p. 55).
Thede provided these lyrics in The Fiddle Book (1967):
The yellow cat jumped
And he jumped on the wall.
The black cat jumped
And he couldn't jump a tall.
It was printed in Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 1 (1994) and
Thede's The Fiddle Book (1967).
