"Box the Fox", also known as<br> "Double Hornpipe",<br> "Box Fox" or<br> "Blockhouse Dutchman"<br> is an American breakdown or reel in D Major. The parts are played AB.<br> It is known in central and southwestern Pa.<br> Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1894) gives that 'box the fox' means to rob an<br> orchard, i.e. steal apples, in Britain and Ireland.<br> It was collected from Issac Morris in Greene County, Pa.in the 1930's by Samuel Bayard.<br> It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981).<br> The banjo tablature is from Bob Carlin by way of John Letscher.<br> It was recorded by Bruce Hutton on Old Time Music, It's All Around,<br> Bob Carlin on Fiddle Tunes for Clawhammer Banjo (1979),<br> The West Orrtanna String Band on The West Orrtanna String Band (1976) and<br> Tracy Schwartz and Mike Seeger.<br>
