"Box the Fox", also known as
"Double Hornpipe",
"Box Fox" or
"Blockhouse Dutchman"
is an American breakdown or reel in D Major. The parts are played AB.
It is known in central and southwestern Pa.
Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1894) gives that 'box the fox' means to rob an
orchard, i.e. steal apples, in Britain and Ireland.
It was collected from Issac Morris in Greene County, Pa.in the 1930's by Samuel Bayard.
It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle (1981).
The banjo tablature is from Bob Carlin by way of John Letscher.
