"Goin' Down to Georgie-o", also known as "Hornio",
"Gunboat"
or "Who'll Take
Care of the Baby-O" is an American reel in D Major. The parts are played
AAB (Krassen) or AA'BB' (Silberberg).
The tune is from Central West Virginia. Melvin Wine's own "The Horney Ewe" is a closely related tune. The banjo tablature is by John Letscher from the playing of Erynn Marshall. It was printed in Fiddler Magazine (2006), Krassen's Masters of Old Time Fiddling (1983) and Silberberg's Tunes I Either Did or Did Not Learn at Tractor Tavern (2005). It was recorded by Ernie Carpenter on Elk River Blues: Traditional Tunes From Braxton County, W.Va. (appears as "Gunboat"), Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin on Jody and Kate (2010), Dent Wimmer on The Old Traditions, Vol. 2 (1983), Jim Taylor and Friends on Civil War Collection, Vol. 2 (2001) (appears as "Gunboat") and Melvin Wine on Cold Frosty Morning (1976). |
