"Muddy Water" is also known as "Durroch's Hornpipe". It was printed in Bayard's Hill Country Tunes (#43). He collected it from Sarah Armstrong on November 18, 1943.
Bayard once thought this tune was a 4/4 make-over of a 6/8 double jig "The Walls of Liscarroll" but later (1981) reconsidered that it was rather a version of the Pennsylvania tune "Durroch's Hornpipe" (derived from the Irish "O'Dwyer's Hornpipe").
Sarah Armstrong (1883 - 1957) contributed 37 of the 95 tunes in Hill Country Tunes making her the most prolific source.
Other Sarah Armstrong tunes in this collection are:
    "MacDonahue's Hornpipe"
    "Maggots in the Sheep Hide"
    "Sarah Armstrong's Tune"
"The Snouts and Ears of America"
    "Sarah Armstrong's Tune".
