"The Old Man and Old Woman Scoldin'" is an American air in 2/4 time and D Major. The parts<br> are played A (slow tempo), BB (fast tempo).<br> Bayard (1944) states that tunes with titles similar to this and with the same<br> quasi-programmatic idea (i.e. a slow part for the old man, a quick one for the old woman)<br> have long been known in both British and American folk music repertoires. This tune is an<br> old western Pennsylvania fifer's march revised to fit the 'Old Man and Woman' pattern: it<br> is a shortened form of "Governor King's March".<br> An example of the traditional tune for this type of tune is "The Growling Old Man, Grumbling<br> Old Woman" which is also in this section.<br> It was collected by Samuel Bayard from Sarah Armstrong on November 18th, 1943.<br> It was printed in Bayard's Hill Country Tunes (1944).<br>
