"Pigeon on the Gatepost" is a Canadian reel known in Canada and Prince Edward Island in G Major. The parts are played AB.
Bayard collected it from a Mr. Simmons in the 1930's. He indicates that the F's in measures 3 and 5 of the A part were played somewhat flattened.
This is a major mode variation of "Paddy on the Turnpike".
The melody is not related to the Irish reel called "Pigeon on the Gate".
It was printed in Bayard's Dance to the Fiddle, Appendix No. 8, p. 575 (1981).
