"Wide Awake Reel" is an American reel in A Major. The parts are played AABB.<br> It is possibly modeled on the Irish tune "Young Arthur Daly".<br> There was a clipper ship named "Wide Awake", recorded in American Clipper Ships 1833-1858 by<br> Howe and Matthews.<br> The title is more likely associated with the 'Wide Awakes', an American paramilitary<br> organization affiliated with the Republican Party in the election of 1860<br> (in which Abraham Lincoln was elected). <br> The reel is similar to<br> "Evansville Reel",<br> "Ratcatcher's Reel",<br> "Clem Titus Jig" and<br> "Peggy Whiffle's".<br> It was printed in Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940),<br> Kennedy's Traditional Dance Music of Britain and Ireland: Reels and Rants (1997) and<br> Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883).<br>
