"The Spanish Cloak", in Gaelic "An Fhalaingín Mhuimhneach" is also known as
"The Munster Cloak" and "The Munster March". The melody appears as the
second half of a tune called "The Bonny Black Irish Maid" in Cooke's
Selection of Twenty-one Original Irish Airs arranged for Pianoforte, Violin or
Flute (1793).
It was recorded by Paddy Moloney and The Chieftans, Michael Flatley, Finbar Furey and others. I learned it from Furey's recording. I play this tune in a medley with: "All in a Garden Green" in the Dancing Master section. "Si Bheag, Si Mhor" in the O'Carolan section. "The Temperance Reel" in this section. |
